Mockingbird is a masterpiece and a great read. If you remember, there’s been a lot of noise online due to one of the covers of the issues. Feminist agenda can spark a lot of fire within the geek community. And so, it happened with Mockingbird. Barbara “Borri” Morse works for S.H.I.E.L.D., and she has to get checks very often. She dreamed of being a Superhero since she was a kid, but she didn’t do it by chance. She was a patient that received an experimental treatment that is highly volatile. It was a Super-Soldier serum. And that makes her a badass.
There are parts in the comic that are like a punch in society’s face. We want to talk to our young girls, and yet, we’re unable to talk about tampons in public. The feminism in this comic book is just related to men and women having the same status. Meaning, that equality is paramount.
We also get hilarious scenes with lots of SM. Barbara happens to save her boyfriend from a mysterious group in London. Well, he isn’t really her boyfriend, according to her explanations.
Have you ever dreamt of being a Superhero when you were young? Well, our Mockingbird has done so a lot of times. If you loved comic books as a kid, and many times I dreamt about being in one of them. The problem was that I saw myself poorly represented. However, I found a mirror in Sailor Moon and the X-men. But it wasn’t exactly enough for me.
This trade is funny and thrilling. However, you’ll have a little bit of an allergy to doctors. She is visiting doctors so much that it’s nauseating. It’s funny how comics can make you feel, and that’s the beauty of them.
Barbara is an exceptional individual: sassy, funny, and a badass woman. She’s a different kind of Superhero, not like the ones we’re used to reading.
So, what can you expect from this comic book? Tons of fun, puns, and sassery. One of the things I loved the most is the Queen. Yes, the Queen of England standing in from a very awkward situation. And it’s super funny!
The panel is quite descriptive: Mockingbird, her boyfriend, a villain, all dressed in SM clothes in front of the Queen. See yourself.
