The Unworthy Thor: The Collector messes up THORsday

This THORsday gets messy with The Unworthy Thor [The Book Depository]. We left Thor and Beta Ray Bill talking in front of the spot where Asgard should have been. Beta Ray Bill goes as far as to offer Thor his hammer. However, Thor is in terrible shape. He drinks too much, sleeps too little, and fights endlessly. And because he cannot fly anymore, he uses his goats.

[SPOILERS: this review contains massive spoilers of this comic.]

Thor is having a hard time adjusting to the fact that he is unworthy. But things are getting even worse pretty soon. Who has the power to remove Asgard from where it should have been? Before they can say anything, they find out who it was. The Collector has taken Asgard because he couldn’t remove the Mjolnir that had landed on it!

The Collector collects all types of objects, including people. So, what does he do first? He gets his grip on Thor. But if you think he wants him for his collection, you’re wrong. He only wants the Hammer.

And he’ll do whatever to get it. He goes so far as to frame Thor to tell him how to lift it. There’s just one problem. You have to be worthy to lift any Mjolnir. And the Collector isn’t exactly a worthy being. Since he doesn’t accept Thor’s explanation, he threatens him. He presents the last person of a race, and if he doesn’t tell him the secret, he’ll kill the being.

It doesn’t matter how many explanations Thors gives the Collector, or even if he tells him that he isn’t worthy anymore. Whatever he does is in vain because the Collector doesn’t understand anything. When Thor says you need to be worthy, he takes this as he is worthy of having the item in his collection.

And then, Thor lights up.

Despite Thor being unworthy, the hammer seems to be responding to him by creating lightning. Thor has the power, and so the hammer. In this way, Thor tries to save the Collector’s victim. He does it, but only for a short time. As soon as he manages to save the being, the Collector’s minion punches Thor who gets unconscious. Then, the Collector orders to kill the creature so that Thor will tell him Mjolnir’s secret.

What’s clear from this comic is that Thor is only unworthy because he believes so. That’s why he cannot lift his Mjolnir, and a new Thor does so. However, this old Hammer is reacting to him. Thor does have the power of thunder and lightning, but he has to believe to be worthy to lift it again. In the meanwhile, he seems to be under the grasp of the Collector.

But, if you think things can’t go worse, then you find the last page of the issue. And it has Thanos in it! Whatever happens next is going to be even messier because I bet that the Mad Titan is going to be after this old Mjolnir as well.

The Unworthy Thor [The Book Depository] is getting better by the minute. Thor is at his lowest moment ever. I hope he’ll understand that he’s worthy if he believes in himself soon. Otherwise, the Mad Titan is going to make everybody have a miserable time in the Collectors hideout.
